In 2010 we commissioned the Institute for Employment Studies to undertake a series of econometric analyses of the relative impact of SET Professionals and SET Technicians in different sectors across Europe. The report of this work may be downloaded here.

Since 1991 we have provided substantial grant funding to Cambridge University’s Institute for Manufacturing (IfM). In 2007 we commissioned a review of the progress made by the IfM since our support began. The report of this review may be downloaded here.

In 2010 we commissioned a short review by Sir John Holman, then the National STEM Director, of STEM careers information, advice and guidance in England. The final report was published in November 2010 and made 15 recommendations.

From the early 1990s we funded several projects to strengthen partnerships between universities and industry. In 2010, as our involvement in the area of Knowledge and Technology Transfer drew to a close, we published a review of our work in the field.

In November 2009, alongside the publication of the national skills strategy, Lord Mandelson invited Lord Sainsbury to explore the issues surrounding the professional registration of technicians. The final report of this work may be downloaded here.

Since the introduction of the National Curriculum there has been a steady erosion of the teaching of practical skills in school science. In April 2011 we submitted evidence on this topic to the Government’s review of the National Curriculum.
