  • * BIS consultation 'New Challenges, New Chances'

    In October 2011 we responded to the Department for Business Innovation and Skills consultation ‘New Challenges, New Chances: Next Steps in Implementing the Further Education Reform Programme’. Our submission may be downloaded here.

  • * DFE strategy for training teachers

    In July 2011 we submitted a response to the Department for Education’s proposed improvement strategy entitled ‘Training Our Next Generation of Outstanding Teachers’. Our submission may be downloaded here.

  • * Econometric Analysis of SET Technicians

    In 2010 we commissioned the Institute for Employment Studies to undertake a series of econometric analyses of the relative impact of SET Professionals and SET Technicians in different sectors across Europe. The report of this work may be downloaded here.

  • * Institute for Manufacturing, University of Cambridge 1991-2007

    Since 1991 we have provided substantial grant funding to Cambridge University’s Institute for Manufacturing (IfM). In 2007 we commissioned a review of the progress made by the IfM since our support began. The report of this review may be downloaded here.

  • * Sir John Holman review of STEM careers advice

    In 2010 we commissioned a short review by Sir John Holman, then the National STEM Director, of STEM careers information, advice and guidance in England. The final report was published in November 2010 and made 15 recommendations.

  • * Knowledge and Technology Transfer

    From the early 1990s we funded several projects to strengthen partnerships between universities and industry. In 2010, as our involvement in the area of Knowledge and Technology Transfer drew to a close, we published a review of our work in the field.

  • * Lord Sainsbury's 2010 report on technician registration

    In November 2009, alongside the publication of the national skills strategy, Lord Mandelson invited Lord Sainsbury to explore the issues surrounding the professional registration of technicians. The final report of this work may be downloaded here.

  • * National Curriculum review

    Since the introduction of the National Curriculum there has been a steady erosion of the teaching of practical skills in school science. In April 2011 we submitted evidence on this topic to the Government’s review of the National Curriculum.

  • * Physics In Schools and Colleges – Teacher Deployment and Student Outcomes

    In November 2005, Alan Smithers and Pamela Robinson of the Centre for Education and Employment Research at the University of Buckingham published the first of six Gatsby-commissioned reports on physics education. The report may be downloaded here.
