EVENTS OFFICER - Science and Engineering Education team

The Gatsby Charitable Foundation is one of the largest private supporters of technical education in the UK. We are looking for a motivated self-starter to join our small communications team as we embark on the second phase of a campaign to raise the profile of the UK’s vital technician workforce.

As Events Officer in the Science and Engineering Education team, you will be expected to hit the ground running, with responsibility for the operational planning and delivery of stakeholder and public policy focused events, largescale events for the general public and management of a photography exhibition touring the UK.

S/he will also have the opportunity to be involved in other areas of Gatsby activity supporting science and engineering education.

We are recruiting a Programme Director to lead the newly established Kenyan Commercial Forestry Programme (KCFP) – designed to help close Kenya’s wood supply gap and generate economic, social and environmental benefits.  KCFP will have a long-term outlook and flexible approach – with the scope to think creatively and test innovative ways of catalysing change for large-scale impact.

With a team in place that has strong forestry knowledge and experience, we now need a Programme Director to set strategy, define culture, guide staff, provide leadership and build senior-level relationships.  We need candidates with a track record in defining strategy and executing effectively, with commercial acumen, and with sector development experience – prior understanding of forestry is not essential for this role.

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR for kenya commercial forestry programme

Do you have strong commercial forestry experience and a comprehensive understanding of the forestry value chain from genetic resources through to wood processing?  Could you use your skills and knowledge to oversee a range of technical work across the forestry sector, and to understand and engage private and public stakeholders, including forestry agencies?  Do you want to help catalyse change in Kenya’s forestry sector that will benefit hundreds of thousands of people for the long-term?

We are recruiting a Technical Director for the Kenya Commercial Forestry Programme (KCFP).  This will be a key role within KCFP, which will partner with private and public sector players to increase commercial returns of growers of all sizes.  In particular, KCFP will help build the capacity and commercial sustainability of key public and private institutions that can provide crucial services, including access to higher quality genetic material and improved tree grower advice. 

The Technical Director will strengthen the team at a political, technical, commercial, and management level.  They will provide strategic leadership and operational management across all technical forestry functions of the programme, while fostering strong collaborative relationships to address sector-wide challenges.
