Gatsby supports a few national initiatives that aim to increase coordination and collaboration between the wide range of organisations and projects promoting STEM education, and improve communication between government and STEM communities on policy issues.

Significant reorganisation undertaken recently has brought a number of Gatsby-supported initiatives under one brand: STEM Learning Ltd. In August 2016 STEM Learning merged with STEMNET, which ran the STEM Ambassadors and STEM Clubs programmes we have supported for many years. The STEM Inspiration Awards, organised by STEM Learning, recognise the work done by a wide range of people and organisations, to enrich the experience of young people in STEM subjects, and to promote the STEM agenda.

Yvonne Baker, Chief Executive of STEM Learning, said:

“We believe all young people, across the UK, should receive a world-leading STEM education. Many thousands of people and organisations across the UK – from inspiring teachers and STEM Ambassadors, to innovative businesses and school leaders – are working with us to achieve this vision. We’re delighted to be able to recognise some of those who are helping young people aim for a bright and exciting future in STEM.”

Jo Johnson, Minister of State for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation, presented the 2016 STEM Ambassador award, while Justine Greening, Secretary of State for Education, attended to congratulate the winner of the 2016 Most Dedicated STEM Club Award.

Lord Sainsbury presented Eilidh Peat of Lifescan Scotland Ltd with the STEM apprentice award; an award that recognises the work of an apprentice or technician in industry who has been particularly active and inspirational in helping young people to be aware of and aspire to technical and vocational careers.
