Gatsby established with initial settlement of £5

1969

First grant to Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine

1978

Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts at UEA opens

1982

First grant of over £1m goes to London Business School

1985

First project for Gatsby in Africa programme

1986

Sainsbury Management Fellowship begins

1987

The Sainsbury Laboratory opens in Norwich

1991-94

African Gatsby Trusts founded in Cameroon, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania

1998

Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit opens

2005

Centre for Cities established

2008

National STEM Centre established

2011

Sainsbury Laboratory at Cambridge opens and wins the 2012 RIBA Stirling Prize

Technicians campaign launches
