Job Vacancies

We are looking for exceptional candidates for three important roles in Gatsby Africa, and an exciting opportunity in Gatsby Education.

Are you a leader with strong strategic, management and communications skills?  Could you build relationships and influence change across all levels of the private sector and government?  Would you thrive in an environment with huge scope for innovation and creativity, and enjoy the responsibility of leading an established, motivated and high-calibre team – mentoring and helping individuals to fulfil their potential?  Would you like to use your skills to contribute to change that could benefit millions of people in Tanzania?

Gatsby established the Forestry Development Trust (FDT) in 2013 to work with stakeholders to transform the Tanzanian commercial forestry sector.  FDT is now seeking a Trust Director as it enters an exciting new phase.  The Director will ensure successful development of both the organisation and the team, and delivery of programme objectives. They will set the tone and image of the organisation, shape its culture, build and support the team, refine and articulate strategic direction, refine organisational systems and effectively position FDT with internal and external stakeholders.

Are you an experienced Senior Programme Manager with extensive knowledge of market systems development and facilitation? Do you have a proven track record of operating at a strategic level? Would you like to use your skills and experience in an organisation working tirelessly to improve a key Kenyan economic sector and benefit hundreds and thousands of people?

Gatsby Africa is recruiting a Senior Programme Manager to be responsible for a portfolio of interventions within our Kenya Commercial Forestry Programme team. While technical forestry know-how would be advantageous for the role, it is not a pre-requisite – more important is significant exposure and practice in implementation of market systems approaches.

This important new role will manage a portfolio of the programme’s intervention areas, developing strategies and innovations that can be tested and scaled with market actors. They will be responsible for intervention planning, budgeting, relationship management plus M&E and learning.  The Senior Programme Manager has a further crucial role in managing, coaching and mentoring team members, ensuring they can develop and fulfil their potential.

Do you have design and visual flair plus a strong appreciation of the likely audiences of a product?  Could you use your creativity and attention-to-detail to help us tell compelling stories and convey key messages clearly and vibrantly?  Would you like to build your portfolio and test your skills while contributing to change that will benefit millions of people in East Africa?

Gatsby Africa is recruiting a Communications & Design Intern to help us develop creative and compelling communication materials. The Intern will creatively use text, photography, audio, video and graphics to share highlights of our work. They will also work with our teams in London, Tanzania and Kenya to help them visually communicate the information and data they need to make their key messages stand out.

The Intern will have the opportunity to build their portfolio and gain experience of operating within an organisation, liaising with external agencies, creatively expanding existing brands, and working to build the skills of others – including staff in East Africa.  Gatsby will pay the London Living Wage for this role.

Gatsby EducaTION

We are looking for a dynamic communications professional to join our education team as Head of Communications.  If you’re a motivated self-starter, who thrives in delivering to an exceptional level as part of a small team, this role offers you the chance to shine. The role will be fixed term – for 10-12 months to cover maternity leave – but the successful candidate will be expected to do more than just deliver against existing objectives.  Rather, drawing on their experience, this will be an opportunity to review progress to date and develop ideas to grow Gatsby’s work; promoting better career guidance for the nation’s young people, transforming technical education in England, and championing vital technician roles in our key industries.

The right person will bring significant experience in strategic communications, campaigns and communications project management, coupled with sound people management and emotional intelligence.

The role is based at the Gatsby headquarters, right opposite Victoria station, London and we would like the successful applicant to start as soon as possible. As well as a standard fixed-term contact, we are willing to consider secondment or private contractor arrangements.  Salary will be set according to skills and experience.
