Covid-19 (Coronavirus) Response

20 March 2020 Justin Highstead

We hope you and your families are well in what are worrying times for us all. We wanted to write and update you on what is happening here at Gatsby Africa in light of the current global Covid-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak.

The safety and wellbeing of our staff and those we work with will always be our priority.  Cases have now been detected in all the countries where we operate.  As such, we are putting measures in place and closely monitoring local government and health advice to stay informed and ensure we act to protect our staff, those we work with and the communities we serve.

The measures we’ve put in place that might affect how we work together

  • We have suspended all international business travel for both our staff and consultants
  • Our offices are currently closed to visitors following local government advice
  • We are encouraging all our employees to work from home in line with local government advice
  • We are encouraging our staff to have virtual meetings instead of face to face where possible

What this means in practice

The above measures mean our staff and partners will need to work together to find different ways of staying connected in the coming weeks.  However, we are reviewing our plans and will continue our work where it is possible and where this makes sense.  Our office operations will continue, albeit remotely – this means we might not be able to see each other in person or carry out any fieldwork for a while yet.  But in the meantime, our doors remain virtually open, so please stay in touch, help us progress our work together where possible, and contact us if you have any questions or concerns at all about your work with Gatsby.

On behalf of all of us here at Gatsby, I wish you well.  Please stay safe and look after yourselves and one another during this extremely challenging time.

Best regards,

Justin and the Gatsby Africa Team
