Coordinator for Logistics, Security & Procurement
Gatsby Africa - Kenya Commercial Forestry Programme
What I do
I support the Kenya Commercial Forestry Programme team on all their logistical, procurement and security needs, majoring in staff safety and security which is key to the programme’s smooth operation. We have teams in Nairobi, Kilifi, Kericho and Nyahururu, so it is important to keep them updated on security matters that may affect their daily operation. Similarly, I support the wider Gatsby security team on the operationalisation, implementation and reviews of the programme security plan. As the logistics person, I also manage the programme fleet (including tracking movement and fuel consumption), and all staff logistical needs, including on procurement of goods and services.
What motivates me
Working in the forestry sector for the first time in my life, I look forward to seeing our plans in the sector realised. I personally participated in setting up nurseries, and my aim is to see the maturity of the trees. The Kenyan forestry team has grown rapidly, giving me an opportunity to work with people from different backgrounds and the chance to learn even more.
My Path to Gatsby
My career path has been with non-governmental organisations (International Livestock Research Institute and Helen Keller International), majoring in transportation, where I have more than 15 years’ experience. Four years ago, I took studies in security management, and am now upgrading my security knowledge through courses that I am undertaking so I can further support the Gatsby security team in a more efficient way.
