Nigel Thomas
Nigel leads Gatsby’s Education team.  Prior to joining Gatsby in 2005 Nigel worked for 10 years at the Royal Society, the last four years of which saw him leading the Science Communication & Education Section, overseeing the Society’s education policy advice work, direct support for schools and a wide-ranging programme of scientific lectures, meetings and exhibitions. Prior to joining the Royal Society, Nigel worked for the UK Research Councils and studied physics at the universities of Kent and Paris.

Faye Riley
Faye is the Personal Assistant to the Gatsby Education team. She is responsible for coordinating meetings, diary planning and grant management.

Daniel Sandford Smith
Daniel is Director of Programmes in the Education team. He studied Physics at Sussex University and then taught in London schools for 10 years, during this time he undertook a Masters in science education before moving to work for the Association for Science Education. He then joined the Institute of Physics where he worked on issues related to the uptake of physics in schools. Currently Daniel is working on a range of projects to support the development of intermediate STEM skills including projects on technician registration and technical qualifications.

Jenni French
Jenni is a Programme Manager in the Education team. She looks after a range of projects, particularly focussing on work to recruit and retain physics teachers. Jenni studied Physics with Astrophysics at Birmingham University and has an MSc in Science Communication from Imperial College. She worked at NESTA and for the government-funded Science Year / Planet Science campaign before joining Gatsby.

James Epps
James is a Programme Manager in the Education team. After studying Philosophy at Cardiff he spent four years in the publishing industry, before moving into education. Prior to joining Gatsby he was head of education and skills at the think-tank Policy Connect. James is currently working on projects that support the development of intermediate level STEM skills, including projects on work-based learning and the technical education systems of other countries. 

Ginny Page
Ginny is currently seconded part-time to the Education team to lead a project exploring the fitness-for-purpose of practical work in school science. She is also Director of the Gatsby-funded Science and Plants for Schools programme based at the Cambridge University Botanic Garden, which seeks to strengthen plant science education in UK schools and colleges. Ginny has a BSc in Ecology from UCL and an MSc in Science Communication from Imperial College. She was a support worker in an FE college before joining the Royal Society where she spent 10 years leading projects and staff in the Education team.

Beth Jones
Beth is Project Officer for the practical work in school science project. She studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge University, specialising in zoology. Before joining Gatsby she worked for the Field Studies Council leading a project that supported outdoor science teaching in urban environments.
