Technician Registration in Science

filling out a form

We are supporting the Science Council to develop and pilot a registration scheme that will ensure there is appropriate professional recognition for science technicians.

Review of Practical Science in Schools

*

Is practical work in UK schools and colleges fit for purpose? We are conducting a review exploring how practical science can be made more effective for learners, more manageable for schools, and more relevant to the workplace and further study.

Supporting an Expansion of Apprenticeships

apprentices

To meet current and future demand for technicians, more employers must be persuaded to take on apprentices. We are supporting research and pilot projects to ensure apprenticeships meet industry’s needs and to increase the number of STEM apprentices.

Technicians in the Health Service

We have commissioned research to map technician roles in the healthcare sector. The research will explore whether a registration scheme would work within the sector and fit into a wider framework across STEM.

    Video case studies of technicians

Working with STEMNET and others we plan to build a bank of video profiles of technicians working in a variety of sectors.

The first of these are available to view now and we will be adding more in the future so we are looking for volunteers to be filmed.
