This report summarises findings of a study by Professors Lorna Unwin and Alison Fuller that examined the extent to which occupational identity underpins apprenticeships in England.
This research by Paul Lewis examines the various models of over-training currently being used by employers, and assesses whether these models could be adopted more widely to help increase the number of high-quality science, engineering and technology-related apprenticeships.
In May 2013, in response to the government consultation on ‘The Future of Apprenticeships in England: next steps from the Richard Review’, we drafted this paper discussing how the Government’s vision for apprenticeships might be delivered in practice.
The best apprenticeships in England compare favourably with those in countries with world leading vocational education and training systems. Gatsby believes that the Richard Review and the government’s response to it provide a compelling vision for how to build on this success. Gatsby is making funding available to support employers and professional bodies involved in the Trailblazers.
