Our country’s 1.5 million technicians are the linchpins of the economy. Every day, they marry knowledge of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) with hands-on skills across industry and vital services to identify and solve problems. This is a web-friendly version of a leaflet setting out Gatsby's ambitions for the country's technician workforce.
This leaflet brings together key data relating to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education. It focuses on the number of people studying STEM subjects at GCSE, A-Level and undergraduate degree levels and also includes data on apprenticeships.
Sir John Holman has developed eight benchmarks that identify different dimensions of good career guidance, and made ten recommendations for improving the career guidance system. This leaflet summarises those benchmarks for headteachers and leaders.
Gatsby commissioned TBR to use labour force data to look at what proportion of STEM workers are technicians and how they are distributed by discipline and sector.
