STEM EDUCATION AND THE UK'S TECHNICIAN WORKFORCE – OUR LATEST OVERVIEWS

27 January 2016 Kate Ford

We have now published two updated leaflets providing useful information on STEM education and Gatsby’s work supporting the UK's technician workforce.

STEM EDUCATION AND THE UK'S TECHNICIAN WORKFORCE – OUR LATEST OVERVIEWS

The first leaflet, Key Indicators in STEM Education, draws together data spanning many years to show trends in the number of young people choosing science and maths at GCSE, A-Level and undergraduate level, as well as data on gender balance, apprenticeship uptake and teacher supply across STEM education.

The second leaflet gives an overview of the work Gatsby is undertaking with a range of partners to address the acute shortage of technician skills in this country. An aging workforce means that 50,000 of some of our best technicians are now retiring every year. In some of the fastest growing sectors, employers already say their businesses are being held back by a lack of technicians in the labour market.
